Australian Skilled Regional (Provisional) Visa (subclass 489)

There are various requirements for the 489 visa, some of which include:

• Be under the age of 45 years.
• Have experience and/or qualifications in an occupation that is in demand in one or more state or territory.
• Be nominated by an Australian regional state or territory.
• Comply with Australian health and character requirements
• Score 60 under the points test.
• Comply with the assessing authority requirements for qualifications and work experience according to the Australian standard of your occupation.

Successful recipients of the Skilled Regional (subclass 489) Visa receive a visa for four years. They are eligible to apply for permanent residence after two years’ stay and one year’s work in Australia. They can also apply for Australian Citizenship.

Applicants need to arrive in Australia within a time frame of one year in order to trigger the visa, and then applicants have 5 years during which to actually remain in Australia.
