Why Alliance Visas

We organize accommodation for all of our teachers, meaning you don’t have to worry. You will usually be placed in a decent but economical apartment close to your school – accessible by foot in most cases or a short ride on one of Thailand’s many forms of cheap, clean, and comfortable public transport. If you wish you are free to search for your own apartment or share.
Initially, we will ask you to cover the cost of your visa – a Non-B (if possible) or Tourist Visa and flight to Thailand. This visa will need to be extended once (1900) in order to cover your entire stay (1-2 semesters) and once per year subsequently. There will be some extra minor costs such as a medical once you arrive (around 200 baht.) We will guide you through the entire process.

How do I arrange my visa?

Visas in Thailand can seem complicated. We will be there to guide you through the entire process. Some countries allow application for a Non-B before you travel, some don’t. If you arrive on a tourist visa, we will change it as soon as you arrive at your placement. Due to processing times, we advise that you apply for at least a 60-day tourist visa before you travel in such cases. • Is there any age limit?

Officially there is no age limit- attitude and enthusiasm goes a long way, so please get in touch on our apply page!

• When can I start?

We employ people for at least 1 whole 4 month semester with intakes every May and November. Our teachers are of course encouraged to stay for longer too and many choose to do so.

• What is involved in the application process and interview?

To be considered, please send us a up to date CV with a head shot photo, a short 1 minute video introducing yourself and expaling why you wan to teach in Thailand. Your degree certificate ( if available) and a copy of your passport. We will then arrange a Zoom interview. For the interview, prepare yourself keep in mind the things that interests you about Thailand and how you could see yourself being successful as an English teacher in a Thai school. Classes can be quite large, so fun learning goes a long way. If you have a passion, get ready to share it. It’s the perfect time to ask any questions about Thailand, teaching English in general and what TEFL skills you think you should focus on. Be yourself!

• What cost does Alliance visas cover?

• What will my salary be? What is the cost of living in Thailand?

Your salary depends on your location, school and experience. Expect to earn upwards of 30,000 baht per month- which a very respectable salary given the national average. Life in Thailand can be very economical indeed. The average price of renting an apartment here is between 2-8,000 baht per month- from basic to larger more modern condos with access to a pool and gym. Food can be as little as 30 baht ($1 US) for a square meal, to 250 baht in western style restaurants. Groceries, clothes and travel are very cheap and it’s possible to save if you are prepared to eat local food which is tasty too. We can give you a full breakdown of cost by email, so get in touch.

• Whats the dress code like at school?

Smart dress is required at school- collared shirt, tie, dark trousers and smart shoes for men, collared shirt/blouse, long skirt and closed- toes shoes for women.

• What if I have a friend or partner who wants to teach at the same school
  as me- will that be possible?

Absolutely! If there are positions available, we can definitely be able to do that.

Visa and Work Permits

When entering Thailand there are several types of visas. A single Entry Tourist Visa gives you 90 days of validity with the 30-day extension and the Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) gives you 180 days of validity with two 30 extensions, which is basically two single-entry tourist visas back to back.
The tourist visa allows you to; participate in meetings, conferences, seminars, attend special academic training or lectures etc.. Once you become a teacher in Thailand or looking to stay in Thailand you will need to swap out your Tourist Visa for living in Thailand.
The process for working legally in Thailand and obtaining a teaching visa in Thailand basically comes down to obtaining a valid work permit to do so. You would first have to obtain either a Non-Immigrant B visa which requires a degree in any field or a Non-Immigrant O visa that does not. Both of these Non-Immigrant visas open a 90-day window for you to obtain a valid work permit from-your employer and once you obtain your work permit, your visa is also extended a year from entry Alliance Visas will provide you the documents and procedure to follow to apply for the NON B Visa,
the documents will take 2to 3 weeks to be processed. Once ready we will inform you of the process step by step. We will guide you and assist you all along the process.

Important Facts

•  Upon entry into Thailand, applicant or his or her appointed representatives must apply for a work permit at the Office of Foreign Workers Administration, Department of Employment, and Ministry of Labor in which the applicant will be obligated to pay income tax accordingly.
• Income tax rate is 3% for teaching professionals in Thailand. If the applicant’s associated company is located in the provinces, the applicant must apply at the employment office of that province.
• If you have a single entry Non-Immigrant B visa and wish to leave the country or travel
  outside of Thailand for a short period then you are obliged to obtain a re-entry permit.
  A re-entry permit must be obtained at the Immigration Office designated for your area. While in an emergency it can technically be obtained at the airport, but it is not recommended as it is not guaranteed you will be getting the re-entry permit there.
• While travelling back to Thailand do remember to note down the re-entry permit number on the immigration arrival card ( TM- Card) and check that you are stamped in correctly.
•  Do not lose the arrival/departure form given to you in the plane, this is to be kept with your passport. In case you lose it you must go to the police station to declare the loss.
