Kenya Volunteering Programmes

There is a variety of long- and short-term volunteering programmes that you can take. Kenya, in particular, needs you for orphan care. If you sign up to help children in need in Kenya, you will make a real impact on the kinds and make them feel at home.

You can help organise events and games, as well as assist with counseling. Kenya itself is a country with unique wildlife and beautiful scenery. In your spare time, you can go on safari or explore the traditional cuisine and art of Kenya. Below are the kinds of programmes you can apply for.

Short-Term

This is a short-term programme that allows you to both travel around the country and help those in need. For those who have less time and would like to help out and explore Kenya, we have the perfect trip for you!

For 2 weeks join the special Volunteer and Travel Program in Kenya. Volunteer at an orphanage during the weekdays and go on an amazing Masai Mara safari on the weekend!

Cost

$475/week$225 for additional week (minimum two weeks)

Included in fee:

  • Shared accommodation
  • 3 traditional cuisine meals every day
  • WiFi and any basic necessities
  • Transportation for any pre-approved activities for volunteering

Exclude in fee:

  • Flights
  • Travelling expenses (with exception for volunteering tasks)

Mid-Term

You will focus on defining and implementing a project which will create a significant positive long-term impact on the children you will be helping. The project will require you to combine your professional and personal experiences to solve an issue at your place of volunteering. You will create real results while gaining enriching experience.

Cost

$375/week$125 for additional week (minimum four weeks)

Long Term Stay

This long-term programme is a great opportunity to gain valuable management and leadership skills through volunteering. This is a 4-month programme, with volunteers taking part in variety of assignments, such as centre operations, community development, finance, fundraising, media and communications. You will create real impact while gaining life changing experience and coaching from senior leaders.

$680 for four months (minimum stay)

Activities to do in Kenya

Elephants Orphanage Tour
Kenya is well known for it’s amazing wildlife so spending a few days exploring the animals must be at the top of your list. Why not visit the only elephant orphanage in Nairobi at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, where you’ll find an adopted family of baby elephants.

You’ll spend a few hours here watching them being fed and taking mud baths. You will then learn about the conservation efforts of Daphne and David Sheldrick. If you wish you could also take a trip to the giraffe centre, there you’ll be able to see endangered giraffes from the treetops.

Willdlife Safari
You can’t visit Kenya without going on a a safari tour! Safaris can be slightly expensive and tend to come in a package of 3 days or more but observing the animals in their natural habitat is a once in a lifetime experience.

The most famous wildlife viewing sanctuaries include Maasai Mara, Amboseli, Lake Nakuru and Tsavo East. It’s here where you be able to catch a glimpse of the Africam Big 6 which includes lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo’s and rhinos.

Prices range from £283 – £386.

Hells Gate and Lake Naivasha
This private one day tour will allow you to visit Lake Naivasha for a walking/biking safari experience in the Hells Gate National Park. Here you will be able to view the big hippos on the shores of the lake and bird watching most notably the fish eagle.

Keep your eyes out for sightings of animals such as baboons and buffaloes inside the park. Later on in the afternoon you will be taken to Lake Naivasha for a boat ride on the shores of the lake, here you will be able to see hippos and the birds.
